About NZSLTA

The New Zealand Sign Language Teachers Association (NZSLTA), founded in 1992, is a national professional organisation for New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) Tutors and Teachers throughout New Zealand.

Our Mission Statement

To promote the teaching of New Zealand Sign Language to the general public and ensure the quality and standards of NZSL teaching.

What We Do

We organise workshops and conferences for tutors and teachers so they can fine-tune their teaching skills and develop materials and resources for their classes.

Newsletters are also produced monthly to give information on current issues of sign language teaching.

We and our local branches also give out information as to where classes can be set up or located in their regions. We have three active branches: Northern NZSL Branch, Central NZSL Branch and Southern NZSL Branch.

We sponsor workshops on Deaf culture and storytelling competitions from time to time.

We celebrate New Zealand Sign Language Week each year in partnership with Deaf Aotearoa.

Camps are organised for NZSL students throughout New Zealand.

We have a General Meeting every two years and from that meeting representatives are elected onto our Board.

Anyone who is interested in teaching New Zealand Sign Language is welcome to join our association and support our mission and goals.
