NZSLTA Tutor Registration System...
What is the Registration System?
The NZSL Tutor Registration System is an assessment system where members undergo a process in which their qualifications, training and experience are assessed by trained evaluators. This also includes an assessment in New Zealand Sign Language Proficiency Interview. If members meet all or some of the criteria; they will be categorised in one of the two categories: Registered Tutor or Provisionally Registered NZSL Tutor. One who is yet to be qualified goes under another category: Non-Certified Tutor.
Why accredite? Why assess / evaluate members?
This is to determine the level of qualifications as well as to recognise a teacher or tutor's qualifications. NZSLTA encourages Community Education Centres or other educational institutes to look onto qualifications of NZSL teachers and tutors before hiring. Students have the right to study under qualified tutors or teachers.
Registration Advisory Panel (RAP) members: Beatrice Nuthall, Dr. David McKee and Eileen Smith.
Special Exemption awarded to Mary Johnson, Dulcie McKie and Ngaire Doherty -- for all their contributions to NZSL teaching in the past twenty years.
Provisionally Registered Tutors: Vikki Wright and Jo Smith.
Congratulations to those fully registered NZSL Tutors! (Top, L-R): Shona McGhie, Pamela Croskery, Susie Ovens, Jackie Davidson, Carol Smith, Dennis Tod. Bottom (L-R): Pixie Neame, Janice Howard and Lynette Pivac.
